Inspection Requirements

Overview

Building inspections are required at specific stages of construction to ensure work meets applicable safety codes and regulations.

The Town of Crossfield does not perform inspections directly.
All inspections are completed by our contracted Inspection agency.

Before You Start Work

Before beginning any excavation or construction, contact Utility Safety Partners (formerly Alberta One Call) to locate underground utilities.

Inspection Provider

The Town contracts IJD Inspections Ltd. to complete all Safety Codes inspections, including:

  • Building
  • Electrical
  • Plumbing
  • Gas

Inspectors are certified under the Safety Codes Act and applicable provincial codes.

When Inspections Are Required

Inspections are required at key stages of construction. Common inspection stages include:

  • Footing / foundations
  • Framing
  • Rough-in (electrical, plumbing, gas)
  • Insulation / vapour barrier (as determined by Safety Codes Officer)
  • Final inspection

⚠️ Important:
Do not proceed to the next stage of construction until the required inspection has been completed and approved.

Missed or Skipped Inspections

If required inspections are not completed:

  • Work may need to be exposed for inspection (at the applicant's expense)
  • Project timelines may be delayed
  • Additional inspection fees may apply
