Municipal Documents

The Municipal Development Plan (MDP) is the Town’s primary long-term planning document. It guides how Crossfield grows, manages land use, and plans infrastructure and services.

Required under Alberta’s Municipal Government Act, the MDP provides the foundation for planning decisions and helps ensure growth is coordinated, sustainable, and aligned with community priorities.

Municipal Development Plan 

The Intermunicipal Development Plan (IDP) is a collaborative agreement between the Town of Crossfield and Rocky View County that guides land use, servicing, and environmental management in areas where their boundaries meet.

It ensures coordinated growth, efficient use of resources, and shared planning for the future.

Area Structure Plans (ASPs) guide how specific areas of the Town will develop over time. They identify land uses, road networks, parks, and servicing requirements to ensure growth is coordinated and efficient.

Downtown & Entrance Area Action Plan

The Downtown & Entrance Area Action Plan provides a framework for enhancing Crossfield’s downtown and key gateway areas. Developed with community input, the plan identifies improvements to public spaces, streetscapes, signage, and accessibility to support a vibrant, welcoming, and economically active town centre.

The Sustainability Plan outlines a long-term vision for environmental stewardship, economic resilience, and community well-being. Developed with community input, it guides decision-making to support a healthy, vibrant, and sustainable Crossfield.

Sustainability Plan (2009)

The Transportation Master Plan guides how the Town’s road network will evolve as the community grows. It uses modelling to forecast future traffic and infrastructure needs and identifies required upgrades, design standards, and funding strategies.

The Stormwater Master Plan evaluates the Town’s stormwater system and identifies infrastructure improvements required to support growth and reduce flood risk.

The Strategic Plan sets Council’s priorities and direction for the community over a four-year term.

It guides Administration in developing programs, budgets, and initiatives that respond to current needs while supporting long-term sustainability.

Strategic Plan 2022-2026

The Biophysical Overview identifies environmentally significant areas within and around Crossfield, including wetlands, grasslands, and wildlife habitat. It supports responsible development by recommending ways to protect natural features while accommodating growth.

Biophysical Overview (2010)

This study evaluates the Town’s sanitary sewer system, including capacity, condition, and future requirements. It identifies upgrades and expansions needed to support growth and provides recommendations to ensure reliable and efficient wastewater servicing.

Master Sanitary Servicing Study (2021)

The Water Servicing Study assesses the Town’s water distribution system and identifies improvements required to meet current and future demand. It supports long-term infrastructure planning to ensure safe, reliable water service.

Master Water Servicing Study (2020)

A Fire Services Master Plan is currently in development and will guide future fire protection services, response planning, and infrastructure needs.

Expected completion: late 2026

The Active Transportation Plan will guide improvements to walking and cycling networks throughout Crossfield, with a focus on safety, accessibility, and connectivity.

The Town of Crossfield follows the City of Calgary’s Engineering Design and Construction Standards for municipal infrastructure.

These standards define requirements for the design and construction of roads, utilities, and servicing systems. The Town may apply additional requirements to address local conditions.
