Home Occupation

A Home Occupation is a business carried out within a residential dwelling that is secondary to the primary residential use. These businesses may have a limited impact on the property and surrounding neighbourhood.

Typically includes:
  • clients visiting the home
  • small-scale services (e.g., personal services, instruction, wellness services)
  • use of space within the dwelling or an accessory building
Must:
  • remain secondary to residential use
  • not interfere with neighbouring properties
  • comply with Land Use Bylaw regulations

A Home Occupation type of home-based business is classified as a discretionary use under the Land Use Bylaw and requires a Home Occupation (Development) Permit, along with a valid Business Licence, prior to operating.
